Alabama marathon runner Jennifer Andress has a lot to be proud of. Not only did she overcome breast cancer and a mastectomy, but she has since had a breast reconstruction, had a child and appeared on the cover of Runner's World magazine.

According to the periodical, Andress was diagnosed with breast cancer seven years ago, after which she had one breast and six lymph nodes removed, followed more than a month of radiation treatment.

After surviving cancer, Andress got back in the game. She got reconstructive surgery and ran two marathons in 2010, one of which qualified her for the annual race in Boston, the news source said.

"I'm running five days a week now... I'm back," she told the Birmingham News.

What makes Andress particularly tough is that, at the time of her diagnosis, she was 24 weeks pregnant with her second child. She had her mastectomy before giving birth, and radiation and reconstruction afterward.

Pregnant women are most likely to have breast cancer between the ages of 32 and 38, the National Cancer Institute states. The disease occurs in roughly one in 3,000 pregnancies, the agency adds.
